Quickstart

This guide will get you set up and ready to use Arc in Figma. We'll cover how to install the plugin, set up your OpenAI API key, and generate your first journey map from a plain text description.

Installation

Beta Notice: Arc is currently in beta and being tested internally. You'll need to install it manually for development testing.

  1. Download or clone the Arc plugin repository from GitHub.
  2. Open Figma and go to Plugins > Development > Import plugin from manifest.
  3. Navigate to the Arc plugin folder and select the manifest.json file.
  4. Arc will now appear in your Plugins > Development menu.

Setting up OpenAI API

Arc uses OpenAI's API to generate journey maps. You'll need to create an account and get an API key.

  1. Visit the OpenAI API platform and create an account.
  2. Navigate to your API keys section and create a new API key.
  3. Copy your API key.
  4. When you first launch Arc, you'll be prompted to enter your API key. Paste it into the input field.

Your API key is stored locally on your machine and is never sent to any server except OpenAI's API. It's only used to make requests directly from your Figma plugin to OpenAI.

Creating your first journey map

Once installed and configured, you can launch Arc in any Figma design file.

  1. Right-click anywhere on the canvas.

  2. Go to Plugins > Arc.

  3. In the text area, paste a description of a user journey. For example:

A user visits the landing page, signs up for a free trial,
onboards through the wizard, and eventually upgrades to a pro plan.

  4. Click Generate Journey Map. You can optionally toggle "Include industry insights & benchmarks" for richer data.

  5. Wait a few seconds while Arc analyzes the text and draws the map.

What's next?

Now that you've generated your first map, you can explore the underlying data structure or learn more about how the AI works.
